There IS INDEED a Problem within Preterism

Kurt Simmons "First, let us admit that there is, indeed, a problem Preterism must face with some who are going over to Universalism. Tim King, David Beck, Presence Ministries, are clearly posting Universalistic articles. Nor are they alone. So, we have a problem. We can either ignore the elephant standing in the room, or try to deal with it intelligently. Most seem to want to Ignore it, or to deal with it at an emotional level, neither of which are helpful.

The problem in your assertion that Paul makes the connection between sin and the law (I Cor. 15:56) is that you assume it is the law of Moses that is referred to. Adam, Noah, Abraham, men today, are not under that law and yet were/are under the power of sin, so it clearly is NOT the law of Moses Paul refers to. Moreover, it is not in annulling the law that sin is defeated, but in the atoning sacrifice of Christ. The law still exists! The law of sin and death (you sin/you die) was extant in the garden and is extant now and underlies every commandment of God. This law convicts now as much as it ever did. And if men (apart from Christ) are as much under condemnation now as they were under the Mosaic law, how can its removal have brought about the "resurrection" (justification) King asserts? How can removal of the old ceremonial law of Moses bring a resurrection? Please answer that.

Surely, all can see the whole premise of King's Covenant Eschatology is false; I Cor. 15:56 is not even talking about the Mosaic law! But let us assume with King that it is the Mosaic law that is in view, then, inasmuch as this law was purportedly over all men what would its nullification bring? According to Tim King, Universal justification! And, based upon these (mistaken) premises, he would be right. You cannot take away a law and still keep men under its condemnation. (Where there is no law, there is no transgression) But as to the fault of the logic, these are King's premises, King's logic, King's conclusions. So please do not fault me as if I made them up. King made them up and it is the basis upon which King has gone into Universalism. So, your comments really do not provide an adequate objection or change the facts before us. Universalism is still a logical consequence of King's Covenant Eschatology."
